| Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tyler Yates had successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday afternoon to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the team announced on Wednesday. Yates, who will miss the remainder of the 2009 season, has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 16 with right elbow inflammation. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Birmingham, Alabama.
